We are so excited to kick off this podcast with Shalotta Sharp, RN. She was a nurse in the Emergency Department for 18 years. She is a 1996 graduate of The University of West Alabama, School of Nursing. She is Special Projects Coordinator for the Mississippi Coalition Against Sexual Assault where she is responsible for education and technical assistance to any agency that is involved with victims of Interpersonal Violence. She is Nationally Certified SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) in Adult, Adolescent and Pediatric Patients (SANE-A, SANE-P).
We are so excited for her to share her expertise with us and give us tips for nurses who want to get into forensic nursing. So let’s get started!

This week on the podcast we have Bobbi Jo O’Neal. She is currently serving as the elected coroner in Charleston County, Charleston, South Carolina. As an experienced emergency room nurse who received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Belmont University in Nashville, TN, she became actively involved in the specialty of forensic nursing first in the area of sexual assault then as a death investigator. Coroner O’Neal has been a death investigator since 1998 and is currently the President of the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME) and the President of the South Carolina Coroner’s Association (SCCA). She is the author of the book “Investigating Infant Deaths,” and has had the unfortunate distinction of working two mass fatalities in the Charleston area to include the massacre at the Mother Emanuel Church.
I am so excited for you all to hear her nursing story and learn more about this unexpected specialty within the nursing profession.
