Education Director - International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN)

About the show
This week on the podcast we have Sara Jennings, RN, BSN, MSN, PhD. Sara started her nursing career as a diploma prepared nurse and worked her way through schooling eventually to obtain her PhD in Forensic Nursing. She first became interested in forensic nursing while she was working as an Emergency Room nurse. Like many ER nurses, she was afraid to take sexual assault patients because she didn’t feel she knew what she was doing. So, she took that as a challenge! She inquired about getting more education in working with sexual assault patients (and other patients who experienced violence) and looked for opportunities to work more with this patient population.
Sara takes us through her nursing journey and shares with us how she came to work for IAFN (International Association of Forensic Nursing – the professional organization for forensic nurses). She tells us what her current job entails and gives information on other positions possible for nurses within this specialty.
