Erika Browning
Hi there! My name is Erika Browning and I am the nurse behind the Black Sheep Nurse! A little about myself: I am originally from Texas. I first went to Texas Tech University and obtained a BA in Spanish. After that I went off to the Marines! I served with the Marines for 4 years as an Air Traffic Control officer. I was in Iraq from June 2004 to January 2005.
I came to nursing a little later in life (not right out of high school). I used the GI Bill to go to nursing school and graduated from Georgetown University in 2011 with a BSN.
About
I started out working in the ER at a hospital in Washington, DC. I spent the bulk of my nursing career in the ER with a couple of years in ICU. I eventually moved to California. After several years of continuing in the ER, I was officially burned out. I didn’t feel like I was the being the type of employee and nurse that I wanted to be. So, I made the transition to case management.
And then…I decided to start a podcast….the Black Sheep Nurse Podcast. Something about me: Above all else, I am a person that loves OPTIONS. And this especially lends itself well to the nursing field.
Black Sheep Nurse podcast: basic nurses doing really cool things. Each week I interview nurses doing different jobs and using their nursing degrees in unique ways. Many you may not have even heard of! The mission of the podcast is to showcase the vast opportunities that exist with the nursing degree and all the different places it can take you.
So if you were like me: burned out or just ready for change, I’m glad you’re here. Because I want to show you everything that is possible for you with your nursing degree.
So stay tuned! I will have weekly podcast interviews and will provide tips and resources. And we will have a lot of fun along the way. So subscribe to the podcast and email list and you’ll be the first to know
Thank you for being here!
Very Best Wishes,
Erika
